ETERNAL REWARD for SELF-CONTROL

As a child, did you learn the song “The Wise Man Built His House Upon the Rock?” The song is taught to children, as encouragement to live their life for Christ and follow what He teaches, reaping the reward God has for those who do! Living a life for Christ is a foundation for great success!  Choosing to follow Christ and His instructions allows us to stay away from trouble.  

Have you ever thought of this popular song in terms of self-control? Having the self-control to stay away from wrong influences, or resisting the enemy when he presents himself? Speaking in eternal terms, we can see the advantages of self-control.  While it’s not eternity in question, we can use the concept of self-control in terms of nursing, as well. Think of the self-control required to resist short-cut procedures.  If you knew you could reach into that sterile field with an ungloved hand, would it be easy?  Absolutely! But, would you cave into your impulsiveness and forego all you’ve been taught about the crucial observation of the sterile field?  If you did give into your desire to break the sterile field, what would be the consequence?  Not good! The same is true of living for Christ.  When you want to indulge your senses in the sweet taste of sin, later you will reap the consequences of pain and death.  Jesus came to give life, forgiveness, and freedom from condemnation! As you follow His commands, you’ll begin to see His promise to you fulfilled:  a house built on the solid rock!!  What a great feeling to know you can withstand the storms of life if you choose to acknowledge, trust, and obey Him!   The reward for earthly self-control will be an eternity of glorious rewards!
