HELLO, NURSE FRIEND!

GOD LOVES YOU!

HAVING A DAVID ATTITUDE IN A GOLIATH SIZE SITUATION

In the story of David and Goliath you may remember Goliath mocking the smaller less intimadting David.  While Goliath towered over David in stature and probably fighting ability along with the experience of being a soldier, David stood his ground realizing his strength came from his trust in God during the fiercest of battles.  David was not new to confrontation as he had many an experience with danger including fending off predators who wanted to take and kill his sheep for their dinner. Neither was David new to a battle which required expertise aim and pointed execution.  In 1 Samuel 17 we read where he would fight off and kill wild animals which would come after his sheep.

Nurse Friend, do you ever reach the unit or home where you will meet and care for your patients and have the faith of David in the face of a Goliath type assignment?  Do you think God is new to difficult situations which seem entirely impossible?  Perhaps yours is the outpatient case load with patients who have sustained catastrophic sicknesses and now are left homebound requiring copious amounts of medications and daily wound care?  Or perhaps yours is the patient load in an acute care setting where you see everything from patients with complicated comorbidities or are teetering on the precupice of needing a hospice consult?  I've worked in nursing homes where looking at the med cart and wondering how I would complete my med pass prior to shift change I routinely cried out to God for mercy and he helped me complete the necessary care just before shift change!

If you and I  call on the name of the Lord we will be saved.  Hope can arise in the face of fear when our faith rises to the level of realizing our miracle working God is available upon our cry for his help! So, in the face of a Goliath size situation I implore you to bear the armor of one who knows who guides your hand.  Remember God goes before you to complete the task that He appointed you to have.  And, He is faithful!  When you and I cry out to God for help and fight through the difficult circumstane we can be assured He is right there with us to give us the victory over our circumstance!

Philippians 4:13 says "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."  So, cry out to God, today, and watch him help you do what needs to be done!

  • Time For Ourselves

"I truly believe that Peggi was called by Christ himself to write this devotional. As nurses, we give so much of ourselves to help and heal others, whether in an acute care setting, long term care or hospice. Peggi has given us the chance to take time for ourselves and reflect on what is truly important and that is taking time to spend with Him and ourselves. All nurses deserve this.”

Are you taking the coveted time to yourself to read God's Word...

God's letter to you is for every issue of life!  Luke 5:16 says Jesus would remove himself from the crowd and go to a quiet place... I would think that if alone time is good enough for Jesus, it's necessary for me, too!  I do covet these quiet moments.  As I homeschooled my children, I learned Susanna Wesley mothered and schooled her numerous children.  Most famous and known to us would be two of her sons, John and Charles, who would make history with their winning of thousands of souls to Christ!  Do you know with numerous children in the house it might have seemed impossible to find the coveted alone time?!  But, Susanna was known to place a scarf over her head for her quiet times.  And, while the children would have been in close proximity, they would also see this outward sign as the time to leave mommy alone!  I implore you to carve out time, daily, to quiet yourself, read God's Word and listen for his beautiful voice.  Nurse Friend! Moments like these are what has brought you and I together!  Such beautiful moments, such as these is where God will gently and beautifully express just what it is HE wants to do in my life.. And, I am forever grateful!

Won’t you quiet yourself, today, and listen for your Heavenly Father?

Psalm 95 is a powerful invitation to worship and praise the Lord, acknowledging His sovereignty and the wonders of His creation. The psalmist exclaims with joyful urgency, calling on all to sing and shout to the Rock of their salvation. The verses beautifully describe the Lord's majestic power and His authority over all things, from the depths of the earth to the heights of the mountains, the vastness of the sea, and the formation of the dry land. The psalm continues with a call to humble worship and bowing down before the Lord, recognizing Him as our God and the loving Shepherd who cares for His people. It then takes a solemn tone, reminding the reader of the consequences of turning away from God and hardening one's heart, as the Israelites did in the wilderness. The psalmist reflects on God's anger towards that generation and His declaration that they would never enter His rest. Psalm 95 serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of heartfelt worship, gratitude, and obedience in our relationship with God.
